The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) marked its tenth year at the Gabriel Akara cultural centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Nigeria.African film celebrities included; Desmond Elliot , Eniola Badmus, Jackie Appiah, Joselyn Dumas, Kanayo O Kanayo, Kunle Afolayan, Lisa Henry Omorodion, OC Ukeje, Paul Obazele, Segun Arinze, Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Udoka Onyeka, Uru Eke and many others who arrived from various countries to celebrate this momentous occasion. The event opened with the national anthem being sung and a welcome speech from the franchise owner, Mrs Peace Osigwe.Award presentations were announced as the red carpet guests were treated to an evening reception.

South Africa’s film ‘Of Good Report’ was the biggest winner, along with Ghana’s ‘Iron ladies of cinema’, Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong Manso’s works also won awards on the night. Leila’s ‘Northern Affai’ won Best Set design whilst Shirley’s Potomanto won Best Editing.As a media partner for the event, Cool FM’s Head of Station, Mr Onimisi Adaba presented two categories of awards; firstly the AMAA2014 Achievement in Costume Design, and the AMAA 2014 Award for Achievement in Make-up artistry.

The event ended with a speech from Mrs. Peace Osigwe addressing the importance of the awards and how much they have developed since 2005. She said “Africa Movie Academy Awards has enriched and invigorated the film industry in more ways than one, putting African film and stars on the international stage,” she also encouraged that there was “a need for African movie producers to keep working together.”

The Awards is a glamorous celebration of artistry honoring excellence in African Filmmaking and Cinema. More photos after the cut.

This is an annual event which provides a unique platform for entrepreneurs,CEOs and Managers in the public and private sectors to interact and share insight on critical strategies and tools to promote business sustainability.

This year's forum took place on Thursday 15th May,2014 at The city hall,mission street,Lagos Island.It was all about Technology! It will feature tech experts and experienced entrepreneurs who  discussed the theme:"Leveraging Technology for SME Growth; exploring its use in publicity,external communications,marketing,outsourcing and business intelligence".

According to Iyadunni Olubode, Leap Africa's Executive Director, "Technology is cxritical to long term sustainability of any business.Given Nigeria's growing internet population estimated at about 50 million users with nearly 70% of them accessing the internet through their mobile phones alone,online transactions present a win-win; transparency and convenience for buyers,while it minimizes brick and mortar costs and globalizing local markets for sellers. One major challenge is explaining technology to business people in a way they understand. The panel of speakers at this forum presented business owners with tips and strategies they can adopt immediately to move their businesses forward."

Speakers at the forum included Dr Oscar Emokpae(chairman; Mindshare Advertising Agency), Tunde Kehinde (co-founder jumia) , Abasiama Idaresit (MD Wild Fusion), Olusegun Martins (Head,Technology Insight Communications) and Professor Balvinder Powar (MD& Chief Communications officer, Boostewr Industries Spain).

The Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation in conjunction with International Style Week Limited, a Lagos-based emerging markets consultancy firm, held a Tourism Development Workshop in Lagos from May 14 to 15th, 2014, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. Additional partners in the workshop include the Centre for Tourism and Cultural Diplomacy (CTCD) of the Institute of Communication and Corporate Studies, (ICCS) Lagos.

The Chief Executive Officer International Style Week and Programme Coordinator, Mr. Bassey Essien has stated that the workshop will unite over 500 delegates from all 36 states of the country. The delegates would be inclusive of policy makers, captains of the hospitality sector, thespians, elected officials, practitioners in the creative industries and tourism consultants.

The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Chief Edem Duke, gave the keynote address at the workshop. The workshop in Lagos will precede the Abuja Presidential Summit on Tourism that will take place in July 2014. The Abuja summit will chart the course for revamping the tourism sector in Nigeria. Notable speakers at the workshop included, Mr. Oscar Onyema, the Director-General of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, Dr. Austin Tam-George, a former lecturer at the University of Cape Town and Executive Director of the Institute of Communication and Corporate Studies, (ICCS), Lagos, among others.
