With Google’s “Pixel Buds”, You Can Translate 40 Languages In Real Time

Google launched its new smartphones, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL recently but the new Pixel phones are without earphone jacks. Rather, you get wireless earbuds which are also called Pixel Buds.

With Bluetooth, the Pixel Buds can be paired with Pixel phones and any device that accepts Bluetooth wireless earbuds. The Pixel buds can translate 40 languages in real time, although the translation isn’t instantaneous, it’s fast enough to hold a conversation.

The feature was tested by Google during its presentation, one speaker speaking English, the other Swedish, both wearing their earbuds, and there was barely any lag time between the speaking saying the words and the earbuds hearing and translating them to the other party.

But it’s unclear how smooth conversations with the earbuds will be in real-life situations, especially with differences in accents and background noise.

The earbuds come in three colours – black, white and blue and will cost $159. It should last 5 hours on a single charge, with a charging case that can hold 24 hours of battery life.
