#DayOfTheGirl: Beyonce Shares Music Video To Advocate Freedom For Girls

To commemorate the International Day of the Girl, Beyoncé shared a video starring an international troupe of fierce, charismatic young girls lip-syncing and dancing to her 2016 song “Freedom.”

The video was produced by Beyoncé and Salma Hayek’s Chime for Change initiative and The Global Goals. Some distressing statistics about the condition young girls around the world revealed by the clip include 71% of human trafficking victims are girls, while 130 million girls are out of school, 63 million girls have undergone female genital mutilation and 1 in 4 girls gets married as a child.

The video director, MJ Delaney said “Happy, smiley joy doesn’t really cut the mustard now. A lot has happened globally, and I wanted to do something defiant and angry and demanding.”
