#SMW2018: The Future Of Broadcast Media With John Momoh

Social Media Week 2018 kicked off with a panel session on the Future of Broadcast Media featuring John Momoh, Chairman of Channels TV who was interviewed by Claudine Moore, a distinguished global PR executive and Managing Director of C. Moore Media.

The panel session focused on journalism, trends and best practices. While speaking on the rise and spread of fake news, John Momoh opined that ‘’Fake news is not news. For reliable and balanced news, people should look out for brands they can trust.” He further said that Channels TV has upheld fairness and honesty in all its reporting, especially regarding the herdsmen attack in Northern Nigeria.

The discussion also highlighted how Nigerian broadcasters will have to move towards breaking the ever-changing shape of consumer behavior regarding TV content. “As of 2004, Channels TV was the first TV station in Nigeria to start streaming the whole Nigeria,” said Momoh.

Besides the patterns of TV consumption, John Momoh also talked about the role of social media and tech in News reporting. due to the availability of mobile tech and social media, news now reported on the go. Despite the amount of trust Channels TV has garnered over the years, it still has fact check every information it dispenses to the public.
