According to him, this year makes the second time for him but the special thing is that he is on his own

Afrobeats singer, Made Kuti said music is one of the greatest tools to communicate ideas and a potent factor in our lives. He shared his thoughts with Bella Naija as one of the singers who participated in the Global Citizen Live event at the weekend.

This year’s Global Citizen Live theme is “Defend The Planet, Defeat Poverty”.

When commenting on how potent music is as a tool for social change in relation to the event's theme, Kuti declared that "music in its purest form is nuance. Something so nuanced has the potential to be very effective in ways that it can communicate ideas and inspire people."

Regarding his performance alongside his father, Femi Kuti, Davido, and Tiwa Savage, he said he's glad he's able to contribute to the global citizen’s agenda.

"It is about defending the planet, defeating poverty which is all the things that myself and my family represent, and that I can do it on a very global scale is a precious thing for me."

He has performed at the event before. According to him, this makes the second time for him but the special thing is that he is on his own this year.

"Still, it’s less about me and more about the agenda," He said.

The event was broadcast live on Global Citizen’s YouTube and a few local and regional broadcasting stations.

The Global Citizen Live kicked off with artists, activists, and advocates from across the globe calling for change.

In Lagos, Nigeria, at the New Afrika Shrine — a symbol of freedom and activism — lawyer and reality show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and actress and model Nancy Isime welcomed Global Citizen Live to Africa.

The countdown clock struck zero in Paris, cameras went live, and the global event went live.
