Rapper Nicki Minaj has spoken out against Jay-Z after Kendrick Lamar was selected as the headliner of the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show instead of her former record label boss, Lil Wayne.
Recently, the National Football League, Apple Music and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation recently announced Lamar as the headliner of the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Following the announcement, some fans criticised Jay-Z, who was in charge of the selection, for picking Lamar instead of Wayne.
Joining the bandwagon, Minaj in a series of posts on her X handle this week, seemed to have taken a swipe at Jay-Z as she fumed over Lil Wayne’s snub.
She wrote, “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for Birdman, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?! Lil Wayne! The GOAT! Nola, what’s good?!
“Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sh*t sad. House n*gger timz. but it’s good fi dem! No loyalty? Welp. then n*ggaz will keep son’ing you!”
TheRoot has given some explanations on why Wayne wasn't chosen.
"The main reason fans are upset that Lil Wayne is not headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show is because it’s taking place in his hometown of New Orleans. It would be cool if the NFL had a history of picking hometown artists for the Super Bowl...but it doesn’t."
Another reason?
"This is not to say that Lil Wayne does not have name recognition or people do not know who he is. He’s a popular figure, but right now, Kendrick Lamar is much more culturally relevant than Wayne.
"For the last six months, every move Lamar has made has been the most talked about thing in popular culture, let alone hip-hop."
