'Essence' sales have risen since it entered the Billboard Hot 100
Wizkid, the Grammy Award-winning musician, has accomplished yet another feat with his 2020 song, 'Essence', which includes Tems, a fast-rising Nigerian talent.
The song was certified platinum just a month after it was declared gold in the United States.
Songs are certified platinum when they sell 600,000 units, according to the BRITS Certified Awards. The records are given gold status if they sell 400,000 copies, and silver if they sell 200,000 copies, however, this is based on Official Charts Company data.
A video was shared on Instagram, of Tems and Wizkid receiving the certification plaque. This comes after the two collaborated on the song "Essence" for the first time.
At that moment, Wizkid told Tems, “I love you, baby girl, you’re a superstar." He also told her that this is her time to shine.
"This is your time and moment and the world needs to hear this because it is special to me.”
Referring to the Platinum record, Wizkid thanked everyone involved including Tems, the producers, Legendary beats, calling them his brothers "from way back."
'Essence' sales have risen since it entered the Billboard Hot 100, and it continued to break barriers when Justin Bieber hoped on it.
