Banky W on Earning the Minimum Wage

Banky also reveals the reason behind celebs who commit suicide

The most surprising thing is when you’ve tasted a measure of success and you still feel empty. When you’ve gotten some fame and some money, you’ve done okay, and you still feel like something is missing.

I think only people have something to do with success identify with that, but I think that’s why billionaires commit suicide.

He mentioned Robin Williams, and Anthony Bourdain as examples.

Banky W refers to himself as someone who’s seen a level of success, someone that others look at, and admire.

“But when you wake up every day and you realize that something is missing, and I think that in every man there’s a God-shaped void. Until you try and fill the void with God, everything just doesn’t feel okay.”

"No matter how much money you have or don’t have, you will have storms in life. Making God my center and just having that rock, that foundation is what has kept me going and kept me above water. I had the understanding that I needed to this relationship that I had with God a bit more serious."

Business

"That is something I have always planned to do. Friends of mine who know me well, know that I love food. I’m a foodie to the core, and I love to cook.

In fact, I started from Suya Bistro and I like to have a Chef W’s type of dining restaurant. That one is still loading. I was telling a story of how my first job in life was working for minimum wage at McDonalds. Minimum wage… that’s the least paid person in the country. Little did I know that 20 I will co-own a fast food restaurant. We don’t know what God has for us.  I tell my employees about my story and assure them that if they work hard and accept training, they will get to where God wants them to be.

Turning Around in life

I’m the type that always encourages young people but I came to have this battle in my mind because people already know me for what I’ve done. My music videos are still out there and that are just a little suggestive. You know the things you’ve done in life but how do you k=now start turning around and begin to tell people something else? I talked to God about it and He told me go and read your Bible properly.

You will see that the Bible doesn’t mask the mistakes of great men. So, David was a king. But he was also an adulterer and a murderer. Abraham basically gave birth to Israel but he slept with his maid. Saul was killing Christians, yet he ended up writing a third of the New Testament. Peter was great at making mistakes and bouncing back, only to make more mistakes.

The point is: Mistakes don’t define you. Don’t be a prisoner of your past. Embrace your evolution, embrace your goals, and just let God do what he wants to do, and you’ll be happy.

Politics

I’m praying about it. I have to tell God about it, I have to tell my wife about it. I also need to speak to some other people that I take counsel from. I know that I will always be on the side of the people that are fighting to make this a better place. I will always be at the forefront, I will always stick my neck out, and I will always play my part in making Nigeria a better place. As to what that means for 2023, I don’t really know the answer to that question yet; if I will be running for House of Reps or running for something else.

I’m still praying about it. If given a chance, the first thing I’ll like to change is unemployment. Actually, there a million things I will like to change. But there are so many young people and not enough jobs to go around. We need to figure out a way to empower businesses, fostering successful environments where they can hire more people.

In my discussions with business people around Eti-Osa, I discovered that construction companies were importing workers. They may go and get people from Benin, from Togo, and other places because the kind of finishing that their clients require needed a different kind of skillsets that many Nigerian youths don’t have. We need to give these youths jobs, give the companies a break on their taxes.

I’m praying about it," he said, after acknowledging that DO2DTUN asked him the million-dollar question. I have to tell God about it, I have to tell my wife about it. I also need to speak to some other people that I take counsel from. I know that I will always be on the side of the people that are fighting to make this country a better place.

When asked if given a chance what he'd like to do to add value to the lives of others, he said if given a chance, the first thing he'll like to change is unemployment. According to him, there are so many young people and not enough jobs to go around.
